No vax-no work’ policy pushes workers to the edge

THE no vaccine, no work policy is cumbersome and problematic for workers who are hesitant to be vaccinated and to workers who couldn’t access the jab and who are having difficulty getting a slot.

By making unvaxxed workers pay for the COVID-19 testing, it makes the vaccination mandatory when in fact it is not. There is no law that makes the vaccination mandatory.

Some people asks why make the inoculation should be mandatory when the vaccines are on experimental period.

What we have is Republic Act 11525 or the COVID-19 Vaccination Program Law which says that vaccine cards shall not be considered as an additional mandatory requirement for education, employment and other similar government transaction purposes.

The Department of Justice has spoken thru Justice Secretary Guevarra who said the ‘no vax, no work’ policy is illegal.

The policy is also unfair, unjust, and discriminatory particularly to workers who have proven to be allergic and face life-threatening adverse reaction to the vaccines, who have no access, have difficulty getting slots.

Government and employers should incentivize rather than punish the unvaccinated. Government should instead shoulder the expenses and cover the cost for the twice a week antigen or swab testing of those who are unvaccinated.

Exemption should also be considered for those people with certified serious and life-threatening side effects to the vaccines.

I am completely vaccinated and I encourage every one to get vaccinated. However, it should not be forced on someone who may suffer serious side effects to the experimental vaccines.
