SLEX expansion seen completed by December

SAN MIGUEL CORPORATION (SMC) said it expects to complete the South Luzon Expressway expansion by December 2024, just in time for the holiday season.

The conglomerate said the project, which is about 70% complete, aims to widen the SLEX from three to four lanes to six on each side.

“The SLEX expansion will be a significant boost to the CALABARZON region, which currently generates almost 20 percent of the country’s GDP,” said SMC president and chief executive Ramon Ang.

He said that the expanded expressway can help decongest Metro Manila and will make travel faster and more convenient for those who commute daily to and from the National Capital Region.

Ang asked for the public’s understanding on the temporary traffic slowdowns because of ongoing construction works along the expressway.

“The long-term benefits, including improved traffic conditions and regional economic support, will be substantial,” he said.
