Mayor Honey lauds GABMC on 25th anniversary

CONGRATULATIONS are in order for the ever-dependable and amiable Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center (GABMC) Director, Dr. Ted Martin and all his staff on the occasion of the hospital’s silver anniversary recently.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna commended and expressed gratitude to Dr. Martin, better known as ‘Doc Ted’, for always ensuring the efficient delivery of the quality health services for the populous district of Tondo.

GABMC is one of the six city-run hospitals providing free medical services for Manilans. One hospital is assigned for each of the six districts of Manila and GABMC serves its first district residents.

In the message she delivered at the 25th year anniversary of the GABMC held at the Manila Hotel, Mayor Honey particularly lauded the very able leadership of Dr. Martin that enabled the GABMC to soar beyond expectations.

Currently the facility houses the biggest dialysis center in Asia, where patients get free dialysis. More than that, patients are brought to and from their homes during their scheduled sessions.

In celebration of its silver anniversary, Lacuna said the GABMC opened its new infectious disease unit, similar to the one at the Sta. Ana Hospital which proved to be very helpful when COVID-19 struck.

The mayor enjoined the continued support of Dr. Martin and all GABMC officials, medical professionals and practitioners, health workers and personnel in aiding the city government’s efforts to make Manila lead all other cities in the country in the full implementation of the Universal Health Care come 2030.

The GABMC, she says, plays a huge part in her administration’s efforts toward ‘Magnificent Manila’ that showcases the highest level and standards when it comes to the delivery of programs, services and projects that would benefit all the city residents.

Lacuna said the struggles, difficulties and sacrifices made by GABMC officials and workers, especially at the height of the pandemic, are truly praiseworthy and worthy of emulation.

The lady also highly commended those who have offered their expertise to the point of risking their lives while rendering effective and efficient medical services for the needy residents of District 1 in Tondo.

Lacuna expressed confidence that the city government’s continued efforts to strengthen and expand the capabilities of all the city-run hospitals and the entire health cluster and health centers will be realized sooner than expected.

“Ang inyong pagseserbisyo sa ospital ay sadyang napaka-dakila sapagkat direkta ninyong natutulungan ang ating kapwa. Sabi nga ni Saint Teresa of Calcutta, “Give your hands to serve and your hearts to love.” Maraming salamat sa inyong malasakit at pagmamahal sa serbisyo,” Lacuna said at the end of her speech.

Indeed, there is no doubt that Doc Ted is an asset to the city government of Manila for quality services that he is able to make his staff deliver.

I have known him since the late Mayor Fred Lim saw his potential as a great doctor and leader and used him to the fullest, initially as director of the then Justice Abad Santos Mother and Child Hospital in Binondo, until it became a general hospital under his stewardship.

His professionalism, talent and integrity is beyond question, the reasons he is highly-respected by his peers and subordinates. Despite his stature, he has remained humble and kind-hearted. The goodness in his heart exudes through his good looks.

Congratulations Doc Ted and all those behind the GABMC operations, and of course to Mayor Honey, for having chosen Doc Ted to head this hospital. Kudos!
