DOJ seeks Teves’ swift extradition following bribery report

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) has urged Timor Leste authorities to swiftly extradite or deport fugitive Arnolfo Teves, Jr. following allegations that his son attempted to bribe a member of the Criminal Investigation Police (PCIC) in exchange for favorable treatment for his father during detention.

Teves, Jr., currently detained at Becora Prison, faces extradition to the Philippines on charges of corruption, assassination, and suspected terrorism.

His son reportedly offered a $2,000 bribe to a PCIC member for security inside and outside the prison.

The call for Teves’ extradition or deportation has intensified in Timor Leste to demonstrate the country’s commitment to not sheltering international fugitives.

Remulla urged the disgraced member of the House to return home and confront the court directly, emphasizing that avoiding accountability under the law only exacerbates the situation. (GP)
