“Yesterday, the Committee on Government Enterprises and Privatization passed House Bill 206 Lowering the Optional Retirement Age of Government Workers. This bill was first filed in the 16th Congress by former ACT Teachers Representative Antonio Tinio and was passed on 3rd and final reading in the House of Representatives in the 17th and 18th Congresses. The bill failed to progress in the Senate,” sabi ni Castro.

“This bill simply gives government employees the option to retire early, 65 years old would remain the mandatory retirement age for government employees. This measure will not be detrimental to the state workforce as most government employees actually prefer to stay in service for a longer time even working up to 65 years old, the mandatory retirement age, in order to ensure maximum retirement benefits,” dagdag ni Castro.
