NAKIUSAP ang mga telecommunication companies na palawigin pa ng gobyerno ang deadline ng subscriber identity module (SIM) registration dahil marami pa ring mga mga mobile users ang hindi pa rin nakakapagparehistro.
Ang deadline ng SIM registration ay sa Abril 26, 2023.
Sa isang kalatas, sinabi ng Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) at TNT na balak nilang magpadala ng liham sa Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) at the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) para pormal na hilingin na palawigin pa ang deadline.
“We are filing this request to help give ample time to all mobile users, particularly the marginalized sectors and those located in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas of the country, to register their SIMs,” ayon kay PLDT-Smart first vice president Cathy Yang.
Ayon kay Yang, nasa 46 porsiyento pa lamang ng kanilang mga active Smart at TNT mobile users ang nakakapagparehistro ng kanilang SIM.
Maging ang Globe Telecom Inc. (Globe) ay humihirit rin ng extension dahil wala pa rin sa kalahati ng kanilang mga subscribers ang nakapagparehistro ng kanilang SIM.
Ayon sa Globe, marami ang hindi makapagparehistro dahil sa wala silang mga government identification (ID) at kakulangan na rin sa digital literacy.
“Given these issues, we appeal to the government to extend the SIM registration process to give our customers more time to get their required government IDs and input the required information on our site,” it said.
