De Lima to Sara: Pick a side or resign as DepEd chief

FORMER Sen. Leila de Lima told Vice President Sara Duterte to make a choice between her role as Department of Education (DepEd) secretary and her family’s criticism of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
De Lima said Duterte seems to be trying to have it both ways, referring to her as “namamangka sa dalawang ilog.”

She however emphasized that Duterte’s loyalty appears to lie with her family, who have openly criticized President Marcos and called for his removal from office.

The calls for Duterte’s resignation stem from criticism by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, who accused Duterte of inappropriate behavior for laughing when her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, referred to President Marcos as “bangag” during a rally in Davao City.

Araneta-Marcos stated that she avoids interacting with Duterte due to this incident.

De Lima pointed out the apparent lack of boundaries for President Duterte, highlighting his tolerance for extreme actions and statements.

“Her loyalties are very clear. They remain with her family who have called BBM names and called for his ouster,” De Lima said.

She suggested that Vice President Duterte should either resign from her position and openly align with her family’s criticism of President Marcos or distance herself from such sentiments and condemn anti-administration rallies.

De Lima noted that Vice President Duterte had attended an anti-administration prayer rally in Manila in March, indicating her involvement in activities critical of the current administration. (GP)
