Council eyes adjusting mall hours to decongest roads

METRO Manila Council (MMC) President and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said he would suggest adjusting mall hours to ease the traffic in the metropolis.

“I will relay it to the body. These are the things we can discuss,” Zamora said in a radio interview.

Adjusted mall hours are usually done every Christmas season.

“Yung mall hours na hindi lang dapat talaga sila sumasabay sa rush hour, kumbaga maging standard operating hours ng malls. Imumungkahi ko ho ‘yan pag nag-usap ulit kami ng aming Metro Manila Council,” Zamora said.

The recommendation was made as several adjustments were made to tackle the worsening traffic in the National Capital Region.

Several local government units on Thursday started implementing the new 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. work schedule so that “peak hours will be spread out,” said Romando Artes, chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The MMC, composed of 17 mayors from 16 cities and one municipality, is the policy-making body of the MMDA.
