THERE is an ongoing debate whether one of boxing’s greatest and Philippine national treasure Senator Manny Pacquiao will be as good as a president of this country as he is a boxer.
He could win the presidency, no doubt, but could he pull it off as the leader of this country?
It is not because Manny lacks the skills and wisdom in running our old, complex and corrupt government bureaucracy.
But it is because we fear Manny’s reputation might be destroyed and overwhelmed by the crocodiles and snakes around him.
Manny as a boxer has inspired many Filipinos time and time again. He lifted our spirits multiple times when we were at our lowest as a nation. He encourages many Filipinos’ hearts around the world.
He has been so great — a complete boxer that the rest of the world adore him that much.
Manny as a senator, I frankly speak that he is misplaced in the legislature. His absences during sessions dominated the news than the key legislations he championed for the people.
Manny’s recent skirmishes with Digong and with sharks and opportunists over control on the so-called political party do not actually bother ordinary people.
Manny is bigger than all of these. He can institute genuine and long-lasting change in the lives of the Filipinos using the power of his greatness in the same way he has inspired millions over the past two decades of his boxing career.
He could win the presidency and serve the people with his heart. However, my concern is can Manny rule effectively amid the sharks and hustlers in the government bureaucracy?
I love Manny as a boxer and I want to protect him from these sharks if ever he decides to run and win the presidency.
