THE intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and the easterlies will continue to bring cloudy skies and rains to several parts of the country, the weather bureau said on Thursday.
In its 5 a.m. forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Mindanao and Palawan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to ITCZ.
Eastern Samar will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by easterlies.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies.
PAGASA warned that possible flash floods or landslides may occur due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
Weather specialist Benison Estareja said PAGASA is monitoring cloud clusters far east of Mindanao that may develop into low pressure areas (LPA) in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, PAGASA forecast the heat index to peak at 45°C in Sangley Point in Cavite City, Cavite and Ambulong, Tanauan in Batangas.
NAIA, Pasay City and Dagupan City, Pangasinan may experience 44°C heat index.
The following areas are likely to also experience 43°C heat index:
–Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City
–San Ildefonso, Bulacan
–TAU Camiling, Tarlac
A 42°C heat index is forecast in these areas:
–ISU Echague, Isabela
–Hacienda Luista, Tarlac City
–San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
–Cuyo, Palawan
–CBSUA, Pili, Camarines Sur
Heat index refers to the temperature felt by the human body when relative humidity is factored in with actual air temperature.
Under “danger” level conditions, ranging from 42°C to 51°C, PAGASA warns of increased risks of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke with prolonged exposure. (PNA)
