NANINIWALA ang maraming pageant fans mula sa Africa na “kinulam” ni Miss World 2013 Megan Young si Miss Botswana kaya hindi ito nanalo bilang Miss World 2024.
Naganap ang “mahika” nang ayusin ni Megan ang bangs ni Miss Botswana na si Lesego Chombo sa question-and-answer segment ng timpalak na ginaganap nitong Marso 9 sa Jio World Convention Centre sa Mumbai, India.
“Let me fix your hair a little bit,” ani Megan, ang host ng pageant, kay Chombo. Agad namang nag-react ang Botswanian content creator, na administrator ng Facebook page na The Truth, at sinabing racist si Megan sa ginawa nito.
“In my own opinion, that presenter wasn’t fixing Lesego’s hair. And there was nothing wrong with her hair,” ayon dito.
“The presenter wanted to kill Lesego’s confidence and also show judges that it wasn’t her natural hair but a wig,” dagdag ng content creator. Hindi pa ito nagpaawat at pinaratangan na isang mangkukulam si Megan.
“Hey Megan Young I can see you are a woman of many talents. One moment you are an MC, the next moment you are Lesego’s hairstylist. I won’t be surprised if you are witch too,” sabi niya.
Nakisali na rin ang ibang taga-Africa at sinabing ginamitan ni Megan ng mahika ang kanilang manok.
“So you were appointed as her hair stylist? This is witchcraft.”
“Why did you fix her hair???? why, why, the spirits of our late great grandfathers will haunt you for the rest of your life..what you did was wrong.”
“Witches come in different forms, and wena Megan you were exposed in front of the whole world; this will haunt you for the rest of your life unless you do the right thing; APOLOGISE TO BOTSWANA AND THE WHOLE WORLD. The implications are obvious; fix her hair? Damn.”
Humingi naman ng paumanhin si Megan sa ipinakitang kagandahang-asal.
“Last night during the final, I fixed Lesego Chombo’s (Miss Botswana) hair on stage. I wanted to offer a helping hand but I failed to oversee the bigger picture. This could have caused distress during that moment and I have been made aware that culturally, this is unacceptable. “We have spoken privately last night at the hotel and I have apologized to Lesego in private.
“To those who witnessed the incident, I also want to apologize for any discomfort or confusion my actions may have caused. It was a thoughtless and disrespectful act, and I take full responsibility for it.
“I assure you that it was not my intention to invade personal space or make anyone feel uncomfortable. I deeply regret my actions and will strive to be more mindful and respectful in the future,” ani Megan sa statement.
