Ruru Madrid holds no grudge against Sue Ramirez, Cristine Reyes

RURU Madrid clarified that he harbors no ill feelings toward actresses Sue Ramirez and Cristine Reyes following their reaction to his Best Supporting Actor win at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

In an interview with Ogie Diaz, Madrid addressed the moment when Reyes was overheard saying, “Dapat si Sid ‘to,” before announcing his name, referring to fellow nominee Sid Lucero, who had two entries in the competition. Ramirez was also seen glancing at the audience after reading the results.

Madrid said he understood their reaction and did not take offense.

“Even if I were the presenter that night, I would also expect Kuya Sid to win, especially since he had two entries and is such a brilliant actor,” he said. “I haven’t seen all the films yet, but I understand why they thought he would win. I don’t think they meant anything bad by it—it was just a natural reaction.”

Despite the unexpected turn of events, Madrid expressed gratitude for the recognition.

“For me, there are no hard feelings. What matters is that we are all happy. Winning this award is an incredible experience, and I still can’t believe it. Making a film is already an achievement, and receiving this honor is beyond what I expected,” he said.
