Nadine Lustre files complaint over online harassment

ACTRESS Nadine Lustre on Wednesday filed a complaint citing violations of the Safe Spaces Act, following what she described as “relentless and malicious attacks” on social media after voicing her political stance during the recent national elections.

Lustre, who publicly endorsed Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Partylist, has since been the target of online harassment.

ML Partylist Representative-elect Leila de Lima accompanied Lustre in filing the complaint.

De Lima also expressed her support for the actress.

“We at ML Partylist express full support for Nadine Lustre as she files a complaint for violation of the Safe Spaces Act in response to the relentless and malicious attacks she has endured,” De Lima said in her Facebook post.

“This is a necessary step in a time when social media is being used to silence voices that speak for justice and reform.

“We believe in freedom of expression. Expression becomes dangerous when it is driven by disinformation and personal malice.

These are part of deliberate effort to harass, discredit, and instill fear. May masamang intensyon.

“We support Nadine. Her case is a stand for truth and accountability. Make no mistake: we will push back against this kind of behavior.

As of this writing, Lustre has yet to issue a public statement. However, several netizens have expressed solidarity with her, with some hoping her move will encourage others facing similar abuse to speak out.
