COMEDIAN Gene Padilla is under fire online after posting a cryptic message about being excluded from social events, which many netizens interpreted as a case of misplaced entitlement.
In his now-viral post, Padilla wrote:
“Napansin nyo? Pag mahirap ka, ‘di ka nila limbitahin sa anumang okasyon? Pero pag mayaman, invited agad kahit malayo pa okasyon nila. SAD BUT REALITY.”
While Padilla did not mention names or specific events, many social media users were quick to assume it was in reference to the recent wedding of his niece Claudia Barretto, where he was allegedly not invited.
The post sparked backlash, with netizens calling out the comedian for being “pa-victim” and lacking social awareness.
“Hindi ka pa rin invited. Hindi dahil mahirap ka. Hindi ka close sa kinasal,” one commenter wrote. Another said: “Walang manners na nga, pa-victim pa.”
Some users also questioned Padilla’s sense of entitlement, pointing out that invitations are based on personal relationships, not socioeconomic status.
“Move on na, sir. Mas mahalaga ang respeto kaysa barley,” one reply said, referencing a health drink Padilla endorses.
As of posting, Padilla has not responded to the criticisms or clarified the context behind his statement.
