PINAHAHAGILAP na ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) ang lahat ng mga negosyante na magsasamantala sa mga biktima ng typhoon Odette.
Ayon kay Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, may natanggap na silang mga balita na ilang mapagsamantalang negosyante ang nagbebenta ng overpriced na halaga ng bottled water at generation set sa Cebu at Negros Occidental.
Kadalasang nangyayara ang profiteering sa gitna ng kalamidad. Ito ay ang pagbebenta ng prime commodity na labis-labis ang presyo o kadalasan mas mataas pa sa 10 porsiyento kaysa sa itinakdang halaga.
“I have instructed our Consumer Protection Group and Regional Offices to immediately check the retailers and apprehend business owners who are profiteering and unduly increasing prices of consumer goods, especially at this time when we are recovering from the damage caused by Typhoon Odette,” ani Lopez.
“We will not allow the public to be taken advantage of by unscrupulous individuals and we will not hesitate to file charges against [them] to the full extent of the law,” dagdag pa ng opisyal.
