IPINATUPAD ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) ang Alert Level 1 o low level unrest sa Mayon Volcano sa Albay matapos itong makitaan ng ibayong aktibidad.
“Daily visual and camera monitoring of the summit crater revealed that the remnant lava dome emplaced towards the end of the 2018 eruption has undergone a change in morphology and slight extrusion by approximately 40,000 m3 between 6 June and 20 August 2022 ” sabi ng Phivolcs.
Idinagdag ng Phivolcs na napansin din ang pamamaga ng bulkan, partikular sa northwestern at southeastern slopes, simula nitong Abril 2022.
“The latest measured SO2 emission on 12 August 2022 averaged 688 t/d (tonnes per day) near baseline levels. Short-lived spikes in the number of low-frequency volcanic earthquakes were recorded on 26 May and 20 June 2022, but for most of this year, only baseline seismic activity has been detected,” ayon pa sa Phivolcs.
Idinagdag ng Phivolcs na ipinatutupad ang anim na kilometrong permanent danger zone sa palibot ng bulkan.
