Kanlaon emits increased sulfur dioxide, Alert 3 stays

KANLAON Volcano on Negros Island released a higher amount of sulfur dioxide on Tuesday, January 14, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In its latest monitoring report, Phivolcs recorded 5,186.3 tons of sulfur dioxide emissions, surpassing Monday’s 3,682.8 tons.

The agency also detected four volcanic earthquakes and a 40-minute volcanic tremor, indicating ongoing magmatic activity.

Kanlaon remains under Alert Level 3, signaling intensified magmatic unrest, with the potential for hazardous eruptions.

Phivolcs continues to monitor the situation closely, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid entering the volcano’s permanent danger zone.
