NIRATIPIKAHAN ng Senado Martes ng gabi ang kontrobersiyal na Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement sa kabila ng pagtutol ng iba’t ibang grupo ng mga magsasaka.
Sa botong 20 affirmative, 1 negative at 1 absention, inaprubahan ng mataas na kapulungan ang Senate Resolution No. 485.
Nauna nang nandigan ang mahigit 100 grupo ng mga magsasaka laban sa free trade agreement, na anila’y papatay sa lokal na agrikultura.
Ikinatuwa naman ng Department of Finance ang pagpasa ng Senado sa tratado.
“The ratification of the RCEP will result in a more open, transparent, and predictable trade and investment environment, which will contribute to the Philippine economy’s growth. Deeper economic integration among RCEP member states will increase the country’s market access, attract investments, and create more jobs,” sabi ng DOF.
