NAGBABALA si Pangulong Duterte na i-audit niya ang lahat ng ahensiya ng gobyerno, kabilang na ang Commission on Audit, sa sandaling mahalal siya bilang pangalawang pangulo sa susunod na taon.
Ayon kay Duterte habang nag-o-audit ang COA, wala naman umanong nag-o-audit dito.
“Somebody should do it. I will do that if I become vice president. Ako na lang din ang mag-audit sa lahat ng gobyerno. Lahat. Pati yung akin,” sabi ni Duterte nang humarap sa publiko sa kanyang Talk to the Nation Huwebes ng gabi.
Ang COA, base sa itinakda ng Konstitusyon ay merong “power, authority, and duty to examine, audit, and settle all accounts pertaining to the revenue and receipts of, and expenditures or uses of funds and property, owned or held in trust by, or pertaining to, the government, or any of its subdivisions, agencies, or instrumentalities, including government-owned or controlled corporations with original charters, and on a post-audit basis.”
Kabilang na rin sa trabaho ng COA ay ang i-audit ang sarili nito.
Matatandaan na ikinainit ng ulo ni Duterte ang report ng COA nang i-flag nito ang P67 bilyon pondo ng Department of Health dahil sa mga deficiencies dahilan para hingin ng marami ang resignation ni Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
Ipinagtanggol naman ni Duterte si Duque habang binatikos ang COA.
