World mourns Pope Francis: Leaders pay tribute to his compassion, legacy

GLOBAL leaders expressed sorrow and paid heartfelt tributes following the death of Pope Francis, describing the pontiff as a powerful symbol of compassion, humility, and justice.

The 88-year-old spiritual leader of over 1.4 billion Catholics passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness.

He was called a “great man”, “a beacon of compassion,” “long and distinguished papacy,” “a faithful friend,”
and a “voice of peace, love.”

French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted Pope Francis’ unwavering support for the vulnerable, saying he “stood for brotherly humankind” and remained consistently on the side of the most fragile members of society.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called his passing “deeply sad news,” and described him as a “great man” whose legacy would endure far beyond the Vatican walls.
