FANS of the late National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Nora Aunor flocked to Kamuning Bakery Café in Quezon City on Wednesday, May 21, for the launch of “Pan de Nora,” a special bread created in her honor.
The bread’s release coincided with what would have been Aunor’s 72nd birthday.
By 7 a.m., the 86-year-old bakery had already packed more than 500 pieces for advance orders.
“Kaya siya tinawag na Pan de Nora, kasi po nilagyan namin siya ng nunal… ‘yung nunal po ay raisin, at tsaka ‘yung nasa loob po ay butter and cheese,” said bakery staff member Noren Olivar.
Among the early buyers was a longtime fan who recalled being taken to the cinema as a child to watch Aunor’s films. “It brought back memories of my mother, who introduced us to Nora Aunor,” the fan said.
Another customer, who stopped by the bakery on her way to work, said she was asked by her boss to buy the bread after seeing it online.
After trying it, she ordered more for herself. “Parang melty with cheese tapos hindi siya parang hangin lang sa loob. Talagang swak na swak. Worth it talaga ‘yung pagbili mo… bibili ako ulit kasi masarap talaga,” she said.
Nora passed away on April 16 at the age of 71.
