Rodrigo Duterte proclaimed as Davao City mayor

FORMER President Rodrigo Duterte was officially proclaimed mayor-elect of Davao City on Tuesday, May 13, after securing a landslide victory in the 2025 midterm elections.

Duterte received more than 600,000 votes, marking his return to city hall despite being detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands, over allegations of crimes against humanity.

Vice President Sara Duterte, his daughter, said they are in discussions with the former president’s legal team on how he can take his oath of office while in ICC custody.

“‘Yun ay pinag-uusapan namin ng kanyang ICC lawyer at ng kanyang Philippine lawyer kung paano siya maka-oath as winner ng mayor contest dito sa Davao City,” the vice president said on May 12.

“Sabi ng lawyer sa ICC, once we get the proclamation papers, pag-uusapan namin ulit kung paano makapag-oath si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte. We have until the day after the proclamation, until noon of June 30,” she added.
