MORE than 1,000 individuals have been apprehended for violating the election gun ban as of February 18, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Wednesday.
According to the latest PNP data, Metro Manila recorded the highest number of arrests with 306 violators, followed by Central Luzon with 162 and Central Visayas with 138.
Authorities confiscated a total of 1,019 firearms, including 403 revolvers, 306 pistols, 41 gun replicas, 26 explosives, 26 Class A guns, 10 rifles, eight shotguns, three Class B guns, and 196 other weapons.
The gun ban, implemented under Comelec Resolution No. 11067, is in effect from January 12 to June 11 to curb election-related violence.
Meanwhile, the PNP has validated one election-related violent incident in Western Visayas and is investigating two suspected cases in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Thirteen previously suspected election-related incidents have been ruled unrelated to the upcoming May 2025 elections.
Election Day is set for May 12, with overseas voting scheduled from April 13 to May 12 and local absentee voting from April 28 to 30.
