Isa pang pasaway: Comelec flags Cavite mayor over inappropriate campaign remarks

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has called out Silang, Cavite Mayor Alston Kevin Anarna for alleged lewd and discriminatory remarks made during a campaign sortie on March 29.

Anarna reportedly joked about raffling off widows and widowers to provide partners for solo parents, a comment that was recorded and posted on his official online campaign platform.

The Comelec’s Task Force SAFE issued a show cause order, citing a possible violation of Resolution No. 11116, which promotes fair and non-discriminatory campaigning. Specifically, Section 3 prohibits discriminatory acts, harassment, public ridicule, and other behaviors that may violate the rights of marginalized groups.

Another remark flagged by the poll body involved Anarna claiming an elderly woman had kissed him inappropriately during the event.

He has been given three days to explain why he should not face charges or be disqualified.
