JUST days before the May 12 midterm elections, public support continues to surge for the #29 Batang Quiapo Partylist, which recently broke into the Top 20 in the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.
The SWS poll, conducted from May 2 to 6, 2025, and commissioned by Stratbase, showed Batang Quiapo securing the 19th spot with 1.20% of voter preference in a survey dominated by established groups such as 4Ps and ACT-CIS.
The nationwide survey involved face-to-face interviews with 1,800 registered voters: 300 from Metro Manila, 900 from the rest of Luzon, 300 from the Visayas, and 300 from Mindanao.
According to Stratbase Group President Dindo Manhit, the results suggest that party-list groups with strong, recognizable branding continue to lead the field.
Batang Quiapo’s platform centers on inclusive economic empowerment.
If elected to Congress, the group aims to push a bill that will establish a microfinancing program for vendors and small entrepreneurs.
Zofia Canlas, one of Batang Quiapo’s nominees, said the proposed bill will provide startup capital through accessible “loan puhunan,” helping aspiring entrepreneurs who struggle to secure bank loans due to lack of collateral or formal credit history.
A March 2025 OCTA Research survey highlighted that 78% of Filipinos—eight out of ten—want to start their own business for greater autonomy over their time and income.
Ms. Canlas emphasized that Batang Quiapo was founded to represent hardworking Filipinos who aspire to earn a living honestly and provide a better future for their families.
Joining Canlas on the nominee slate are Atty. Ruskin Prinsipe, a veteran legal practitioner, and Vilma Macasaet Arce, the daughter of a former public market vendor.
In a previous Tangere survey, Batang Quiapo also ranked 19th with 1.52% support, and it was also projected to secure a congressional seat in a separate OCTA Research survey, where it landed within ranks 34–36.
