ATTENDING interviews and other public fora can really work wonders if you are running for public office, especially if you are targeting the presidency, the highest position in the land, no less.
A clear example is what happened to Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, standard bearer of Aksyon Demokratiko, who had been registering a steady, upward trajectory as the most preferred candidate.
Surveys conducted by Tangere, a big data research firm, has shown that 65 percent of respondents had said that Moreno stood out the most among the presidentiables in the January 22 Jessica Soho interviews, as well as in the February 4 KBP Presidential Forum where he got the nod of 54 percent of the survey participants.
According to Tangere, Mayor Isko stood out in the said media-sponsored events because of his clear and specific economic policies to address various issues plaguing the country has connected well with the Filipino people.
Tangere, an award-winning technology & innovation-driven market research & opinion poll company that has an active and continuously growing nationwide respondent base of more than 600,000, stated that based on the results of its survey conducted February 11-12, Moreno’s numbers rose to 23.5 percent, from 22.17 percent last February 5.
The January 18 run of the survey showed the numbers of the Aksyon Demokratiko presidential candidate at 16.75 percent as compared to 16.29 percent last January 3 while in contrast, the Tangere surveys show a steady and consistent decline in the numbers of Moreno’s main rivals, as opposed to the increase in the Voter Preference of Mayor Isko, from 16 % last January 5 to 23% on February 11.
This is widely attributed to the fact that Moreno’s is clear cut and there are numerous proof of achievements in the City of Manila to back it up which, by the way, can be replicated all over the country as the mayor assures.
Aside from being very candid, Moreno clearly speaks from the heart and does not mince words, so that viewers can feel his sincerity.
“Kasi ako, nag-a-apply sa ‘yo ng trabaho, ikaw Pilipino, syempre kung ako yung iha-hire mo, di ba gusto mo tanungin din ako sa mga bagay na concern mo? Just imagine yourself as a voter, you are the HR, paano mo naman ako tatanggapin kung hindi mo naman ako na-interview? Kung yun ba kaya kong gawin o kaya kong tupdin, yung responsibilidad na iniaatang nong posisyon na bibigay mo bilang botante sa akin,” Moreno says.
Once elected president, Moreno vowed to address the perennial problems of poverty, hunger, unemployment, inequality and social injustice in the country by focusing on providing the minimum basic needs of the people – housing, education, health care and jobs – through the efficient and prudent management of government resources. These form the main pillars of his 10-Point Bilis Kilos Economic Agenda.
On top of his priority list is the implementation of a 50 percent tax cut on petroleum and electricity as this will directly benefit the people.
Moreno also vowed that if elected president, his administration will pursue a “Life and Livelihood” economic policy that aims to address poverty, hunger, unemployment, inequality and social injustice through an inclusive and equitable infrastructure development program.
To achieve this, the Moreno administration will continue the Build, Build Build program of President Rodrigo Duterte, with focus on building more public housing, more public schools, and more public hospitals across the country to create more jobs and opportunities for our people.
He also vowed to revive and support the MSME sector through various government interventions, as well as promote a culture of sustainable tourism by developing tourism highways and tourism circuits among others.
To further hasten human and economic growth, Moreno also vowed to strengthen physical, economic and digital linkages among growth centers and the rural economies.
The Aksyon Demokratiko presidential bet also vowed that his administration will build a national fiber optic backbone to boost the country’s communication capability, and connect all schools, government offices and industries that rely heavily on internet connectivity.
Moreno’s accelerated infrastructure program also prioritizes building more power plants, both conventional and renewable, to ensure a stable and affordable supply of electricity to grow the economy and attract foreign investments.
The list is quite long but the glimpse I have provided, I guess, is enough to let us know that his plans are not ‘generic’. They are concrete and many of them have been done in Manila.
