CALAPAN City, Oriental Mindoro Mayor Malou Flores-Morillo is indeed, a trailblazer.
First, she is the first woman ever to be elected as Mayor of Calapan, having defeated two men — an incumbent and a lawyer.
No mean feat? Well, just recently, she also managed to clinch the prestigious recognition as a “Most Oustanding Mayor” awardee in the Philippines during the holding of the “Gawad Pilipino Lingkod Bayan Awards 2024” in simple ceremonies held at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
Other public servants and personalities from different fields of endeavor were also recognized by the Civil Service Commission for their excellent performance during the event.
In her speech, Morillo thanked the Gawad Pilipino Lingkod Bayan Awards 2024 for the recognition.
“This honor is not only for me but for the entire Calapan City and all Calapeños who continue to trust, support and unite our aspirations.”
“Your love and cooperation are the true strength of our city. Let’s just keep doing what is right—as a guide to our continuous elevation and progress. Thank you very much! Long live Calapan City! Long live the Calapeños!,” she added.
The award, she said, was an affirmation of the effectiveness of the programs and projects put in place by her administration and her fellow workers in the city government.
Among Morillo’s numerous notable programs that merited the recognition are the free health care services in every barangay in Calapan City which, she said, is one of the highlights of the Expanded Health Program launched by her administration.
The program is meant to bring straight to the community level, especially the less privileged residents of Calapan, all the free health services being provided by the city government.
With the said program in place, residents needing free medical services no longer have to spend their precious money, time and effort to go to the city hall and avail of the free health services since they are already being brought right at their doorsteps through the efforts of Morillo’s stewardship.
Among the many free services offered are check-ups, tooth extraction, medicines, health cards, Philhealth, ENT (eyes, nose and throat) check and even photocopying of documents needed in the process.
The recognition, according to the mayor, will serve as an inspiration for her and her team to do even better in the years ahead, as they aim to continuously provide excellence in public service and good governance for the people of Calapan.
Congrats, Mayor Morillo!!! Indeed, she is solid proof that what men can do, women can do better.
