PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the demolition of the controversial footbridge in Quezon City, dubbed “Mt. Kamuning” for its steep incline, and called for the construction of a safer alternative for the public.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the President issued the directive to replace the structure with a better and more accessible pedestrian crossing.
“Sabi niya [Pangulong Marcos], ‘Build a better one. Tear it down and build a better one’,” Dizon said.
The new footbridge will be built at a lower elevation, equipped with elevators, and will have a direct connection to the GMA-Kamuning EDSA Busway Station.
Construction is expected to begin later this year.
