Update: 2 dead, 4 hurt as SUV rams into crowd at NAIA Terminal 1

A sport utility vehicle (SUV) plowed into a group of people outside the departure area of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Sunday morning, killing two and injuring four others.

The incident occurred at around 8:50 a.m., according to Pasay Police Substation 8.

The Philippine Red Cross confirmed in a Facebook post that the fatalities included an adult male and a four-year-old girl.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said in a statement that the SUV driver is now in police custody.

“The area has since been secured, and access is limited to authorized personnel from New NAIA Infra Corp., the Philippine National Police, and MIAA Security, who are conducting a full investigation,” MIAA said.

Authorities have yet to release an official cause of the crash, pending the results of the ongoing probe.
