Thousands of rebels expected to surrender—NAC

THE National Amnesty Commission (NAC)  announced that up to 100,000 rebels are expected to apply for amnesty.

In a “Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon” public briefing, NAC Chairperson, lawyer Leah Tanodra-Armamento said that the application period for amnesty will last only up to two years.

Applications for members of the CPP-NPA-NDF began on March 13, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Workers’ Party of the Philippines, Alex Boncayao Brigade, Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) began accepting applications last March 4.

The amnesty application covers those who committed acts of rebellion before November 23, 2023.

Applications will remain with the NAC for a maximum of 90 days before being submitted to the Office of the President for approval.

Once submitted, the application is considered an act of surrender, and the applicant can then be referred to as a “former rebel.” (GP)
