Task force launches comic book on WPH

THE National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS), in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), on Friday officially launched the comic book “Ang mga Kwento ni Teacher Jun” (The Stories of Teacher Jun).

The book highlights national pride and is designed to instill responsibility among Filipinos as stewards of the country’s maritime heritage, according to PCG chief Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan.

“This comic book is a testament to how stories can be wielded to inform, inspire, and ignite action,” Gavan stated during the launch event.

Gavan said the book is more than just an educational tool, calling it “a bold statement of our commitment to fostering a generation rooted in its identity and resolute in its purpose.”

He further assured the public that the comic book was developed through a partnership with the private sector and that no public funds were utilized in its production.

“Through its pages, we hope to spark curiosity, inspire pride, and empower our youth to protect what is rightfully ours,” he added.

National Security Adviser Eduardo Año underscored the importance of the comic book in countering misinformation related to the West Philippine Sea as China continued to employ “false narratives” to undermine Philippines’ sovereignty and sovereign rights.

“For years, we have witnessed the illegal, coercive, aggressive, and deceptive actions of Beijing in the South China Sea,” Año said, stressing that China’s actions follow a pattern that threatens national integrity.

Año also noted that many Filipinos struggle to grasp the significance of the West Philippine Sea dispute, and that comics can serve as an effective medium to bridge this gap.
