DALAWANG araw na pagdinig sa Senado ang nauwi lang sa wala matapos mabigong mapiga ang mga resource persons hinggil sa akusasuong may bribery na ginawa para maisulong ang People’s Initiative.
Ito ang naging pahayag ni Deputy Speaker David “Jayjay” Suarez bilang reaksyon sa hearing na ikinasa ng Senate committee on electoral reform and people’s participation na pinangunahan ni Senador Imee Marcos.
“After two hearings, no witnesses have come forward to say that they received money or were bribed to sign the petition calling for Charter Amendments. Nakakahiya na tuluy-tuloy pa rin ang imbestigasyon kahit lahat ng testigong iniharap nila sa pagdinig ay nagsasabing hindi sila nabayaran,” ayon sa kongresista mula sa Quezon.
Nanawagan si Suarez sa Senado na imbes paggugulan ng panahon ang “witch hunting”, pabilisin na lamang nito ang pagpasa ng Resolution of Both Houses na nagsusulong na amyendahan ang mga economic provisions ng Konstitusyon.
“The continuation of this investigation in Davao City, which paralleled the outcome of the Manila hearings with no witnesses confirming the bribery allegations, raises serious questions about the substance and direction of this inquiry,” dagdag pa ni Suarez.
Bukod pa rito, marami rin anyang nasasayang na resources ng pamahalaan ang iginugugol na pagdinig ng Senado na wala naman din anyang nararating.
“While it is crucial to investigate any allegations of misconduct, especially those that could affect constitutional processes, the consistent lack of corroborative testimonies suggests that this investigation may not be the best use of our legislative body’s time and resources,” pahayag pa nito.
“Sa Maynila man o sa Davao, ang parati nating naririnig mula sa mga testigo ay ang salitang ‘wala’. Mahirap talagang ipilit kung wala talagang natanggap.”
