STARTING June 20, students can enjoy a 50 percent fare discount on all LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 rides, according to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
The move follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ease transport costs for students, especially with the start of the new school year.
The discount is a big jump from the previous 20 percent.
It applies to all students—from elementary to postgraduate—and is valid even on weekends and holidays.
To get the discount, students need to buy a single-journey ticket at the station and show either a valid school ID or proof of enrollment.
The discount does not apply to Beep cards yet, but the Department of Transportation says they’re working on making that happen in the next few months.
For now, if you want cheaper train rides, stick to single-journey tickets and don’t forget your school ID.
