THE Cybercrime Investigation Coordinating Center (CICC) and Scam Watch Pilipinas on Thursday called on the public to report SMS scams and other suspicious messages through the eGov mobile app.
In a statement, CICC Executive Director, Undersecretary Alexander Ramos, said the public can use the eReport feature of the eGov app aside from calling the Inter-Agency Response Center (I-ARC) Hotline 1326.
“Victims of cyber fraud should call 1326 and those who just received text scams can report the numbers to the eGov App eReport feature,” Ramos said.
The data received through the eGov app are sent to the National Telecommunications Commission which immediately blocks the numbers.
The eGov app was developed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology and is meant to offer access to digital government transactions.
The app is available for both Android and iOS users.
The CICC recently announced that complaints will be filed against telcos that fail to properly account for their unregistered SIM cards used to defraud the public. (PNA)
