THE Philippine National Police (PNP) said it has identified a possible source of the deepfake video of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The PNP has begun working with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to investigate the video, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said at a news forum held in Quezon City on Saturday night.
“Initially, may na-identify na possible source deepfake audio na ito, but as to the extent po ng kanyang involvement dito ay ‘yun pa rin ang subject ng ating investigation,” Fajardo said.
Fajardo added that the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group was already looking into the two accounts used in uploading the video.
“[But] whether this is intentional or not, those people behind this deepfake audio will be held accountable,” she said.
The deepfake video featured Marcos allegedly ordering an attack on China.
Earlier, Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Patricia Kayle Martin said the DICT suspects a foreign actor is behind the deepfake. She however did not elaborate.
