HINDI natuwa ang Simbahang Katoliko sa ginawang “review” sa ostya o communion bread ng isang 17-anyos na mag-aaral mula sa Ateneo.
Ayon sa isang opisyal ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), isang paglapastangan ang ginawang food review sa ostya.
Sinabi ni Fr. Jerome Secillano, executive secretary of the CBCP Public Affairs Committee, posibleng maparusahan ng excommunication ang estudyante dahil sa sacrilegious act na ginawa nito.
“It’s a form of sacrilege. You have to atone for that. In the Church, there is ex-communication regarding (such acts). The Church is very clear on that. That’s canonically provided. There is a provision in the Canon Law. If there is total disrespect to a sacred specie, it is latae sententiae, which means automatic ex-communication,” pahayag ni Secillano.
Ang ex-communication ay isang parusa sa isang miyembro ng Simbahan, kung saan hindi siya papayagan sumali sa anumang seremonya ng Simbahan.
Ang ostya, o puting wafer, ay siyang iinibigay sa mga mananampalataya tuwing communion. Ito ay sumisimblo sa Katawan ni Kristo tuwing may Eucharistic celebration.
