No dengue outbreak in Manila, says Lacuna

MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna assured the public on Monday that there is no dengue outbreak in the city.

But the city government is not being complacent, Lacuna said as she ordered the strengthening of preventive measures to curb the rise in dengue cases and prevent a possible outbreak.

“Since prevention is better than cure, I have instructed the Manila Health Department (MHD), barangay officials, and hospitals in Manila to intensify preventive measures against dengue,” the city mayor said.

She also directed the MHD and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to distribute additional anti-mosquito larvae (larvicide) kits in barangays where an increase in dengue cases has been observed.

Out of Manila’s 897 barangays, only 25 showed clustering of dengue cases, with most affected individuals aged 5 to 39.

The highest number of dengue cases was reported in Districts 1, 5, and 6, while four deaths were recorded—three of which were from District 3. A total of 51 barangays required misting operations as of February 14.
