AFTER Sunday morning’s vehicular crash at the NAIA Terminal 1 departure area, netizens took to social media to offer unsolicited—but passionate—suggestions to SMC President Ramon Ang, who also serves as president of New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the airport operator.
Some urged a return to stricter drop-off policies, while others called for a redesign of the terminal’s traffic and safety setup.
“Sir, suggestion—copy/implement the parking system at Terminal 3’s departure area,” wrote Ed Mateo.
“Hindi kasi dapat nagpapark ng matagal doon sa harap ng departure entrance… dati pinapaalis agad-agad ang mga sasakyan,” said Mel Lapuz. “Bat ngayon nakakapag-park na ng matagal?”
Others offered technical ideas:
“Suggestion lang po, di naman nagmamagaling,” said Yapmuj Annika Arianne. “Limit direct access to terminal entrances, install crash-rated bollards or ram barriers, and redesign traffic flow with speed bumps.”
Allan Redrino pointed out the failure of safety barriers in the crash video: “May suggest Ing po ako Mr. Ang… palitan niyo po yung barrier ng hindi natitinag kahit malaking sasakyan ang bumangga.”
Suggestions also included shifting to parallel parking instead of head-on orientation, improving bollards to separate vehicles from people, and creating more distance between parking slots and entrance doors.
“NO PARKING SA HARAP NG ENTRANCE!” declared one commenter.
