PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is unsatisfied with the non-ranking of any Philippine university in the top 100 Asia University Rankings.
In his speech at the National Higher Education Day summit of the Commission on Higher Education on Wednesday, the President said a lot of things need to be done for the country’s universities to break into the top 100 rankings in Asia.
He mentioned that the country’s well-known top schools are either dropping from the rankings or not improving.
“We must acknowledge that in recent times, in the 2024 Asia University Rankings, unfortunately, no Philippine university has reached the top 100, with the country’s top schools either dropping or maintaining their rankings. This just goes to show that much work is still to be done,” said the President.
The President emphasized the need for a comprehensive strategy to improve the rankings because education shapes the future of the country.
He stated that the youth must be equipped with the right skills in school to keep up with the rapid changes of the times and not be left behind.
“We must pursue a comprehensive and all-encompassing strategy that will turn this trend around. The state of our education today shapes the future of the nation. The battle to win the future is waged in today’s schools, where we should arm our young men and women with the right skills to not only survive but to thrive in a rapidly changing world that does not wait for anyone,” he added.
