LTO summons SUV owner with 307 violations for illegal use of Edsa busway

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the registered owner of a Mitsubishi Montero Sport caught 307 times for illegally entering the EDSA Busway since 2022.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II confirmed on Tuesday that a show cause order (SCO) was issued against the owner, a Quezon City resident. The vehicle has also been placed under alarm status to block any LTO-related transactions.

“This is a clear case of habitual violation. We’ve identified the vehicle owner, and our investigation will also determine who was behind the wheel during those repeated infractions,” Mendoza said.

The move comes in response to a request by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Romando Artes, who noted the vehicle was flagged 14 times by CCTV since the reimplementation of the No-Contact Apprehension Policy on May 26.

The vehicle was last registered in August 2022. The SCO requires the owner to name the driver and explain why penalties should not be imposed. The driver may face charges under the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, while the owner could be held liable for failing to ensure proper registration.

The LTO warned that failure to respond will result in a decision based on available evidence.
