TAAL volcano’s southwest tip was hit by a grassfire Thursday night, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
“Ongoing grassfire at the southwest tip of Taal Volcano Island (right) since 6:40 p.m., 2 May 2024, in the area where DOST-PHIVOLCS’ Binintiang Munti Observation Station (VTBM) is situated,” Phivolcs posted on Facebook past 11:30 p.m.
The agency, however, stressed that a grassfire “frequently occurs” in But Phivolcs also noted that a grassfire “frequently occurs” as it happened also last year.
Last March, a grassfire was reported too near the tip of the volcano.
Taal Volcano remains under alert level 1 based on Phivolcs’s latest advisory.
