Government aids OFW after in-fight miscarriage in South Korea

AN overseas Filipino worker (OFW) is receiving full assistance from the Philippine government after suffering a miscarriage during a flight to South Korea.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that the OFW, who was en route to Saipan with her family, experienced complications mid-flight while transiting through Incheon.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Seoul is providing medical, legal, and emotional support. “President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has given a clear directive to always prioritize the safety and well-being of our OFWs, especially in times of crisis,” he stated.

According to The Korea Herald, emergency responders in South Korea were alerted after the premature baby was delivered on board but showed no signs of life. Upon landing at Incheon Airport, the OFW was immediately brought to INHA University Hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead.

The OFW was traveling from Clark International Airport with her husband, child, and mother-in-law. She is now in stable condition.

The DMW is covering all medical expenses and assisting with the ongoing investigation by Korean authorities. They are also working with the Philippine Embassy in Seoul to facilitate the autopsy process and arrange the repatriation of the baby’s remains.
