DOTr chief Jaime Bautista resigns; Vince Dizon named new secretary

TRANSPORTATION Secretary Jaime Bautista has stepped down from his post due to health reasons, paving the way for former Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) chief Vince Dizon to take over.

Malacañang confirmed Bautista’s resignation on Thursday, with Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin announcing that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Dizon as his replacement, effective February 21, 2025.

“Vivencio ‘Vince’ Bringas Dizon is going to be the next Secretary of the Department of Transportation, effective February 21, 2025,” Bersamin said.

He also noted that Dizon has been authorized to begin the transition in coordination with Bautista’s team.

Bautista, a former Philippine Airlines president, was appointed as DOTr chief in 2022.

His tenure focused on modernizing the country’s transport infrastructure, including railway projects, aviation upgrades, and maritime improvements.

However, his resignation due to health concerns marks an unexpected change in the agency’s leadership.

Dizon, known for his role in the Duterte administration’s “Build, Build, Build” program, brings extensive experience in infrastructure and government operations.

He previously served as presidential adviser on flagship projects and played a key role in the country’s COVID-19 response.
