THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will initially issue fewer than 100 million pieces of each denomination of its new polymer banknote series to meet the holiday season’s currency demand.
“For the initial launch, we’ll have limited quantities, around 70 to 90 million pieces per denomination. The P1,000 polymer note is already in circulation,” BSP Assistant Governor Mary Anne Lim announced.
She added that higher quantities of the P500, P100, and P50 polymer banknotes will be issued starting in 2025, with additional releases planned for next year.
Last week, the BSP unveiled the new polymer bills, following the successful introduction of the P1,000 polymer banknote over two years ago.
Currently, 661 million pieces of the polymer P1,000 bill are circulating nationwide, underscoring the central bank’s ongoing transition to more durable and secure plastic-based currency.
