FORMER senator Antonio Trillanes IV revealed Tuesday that active senior members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have been recruiting members to take part in an ouster plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
“May na-identify na active senior PNP officials na nagre-recruit since last year, pero wala pa silang nare-recruit,” Trillanes said in a press conference at a Makati hotel.
He added that retired officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are also trying to recruit active soldiers in the ouster plot.
Trillanes said the PNP and AFP officials are already feeling the sense of urgency since the International Criminal Court (ICC) is expected to issue an arrest warrant against former president Rodrigo Duterte, by either June or July.
“It’s a matter of survival… meron na silang sense of urgency to oust President Marcos,” Trillanes said.
As of posting time, the PNP and the AFP have yet to issue comments.
Earlier, Trillanes disclosed that the the ICC will issue an arrest warrant against Duterte for his involvement in the war on drugs by mid year.
“The warrant will be released late second quarter, so we can say middle of the year, maybe June or July, that will actually happen. So it is a waiting game at this point,” he said.
He added that the arrest warrant for Duterte’s daughter Vice President Sara Duterte and other personalities would follow.
“Based on the information gathered, this warrant of arrest would come in batches. The first batch is only (for) one, only Duterte, the father. The second (batch) is for the (other) principal actors, as far as I know,” Trillanes said.
Aside from the Dutertes, other personalities reportedly investigated by the ICC in connection with the violent campaign against illegal drugs are Sen. Ronald de la Rosa and Sen. Bong Go.
