EIGHT civilian informants were awarded a total of P11.6 million in cash rewards by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Thursday, May 22, in recognition of their vital role in recent successful anti-drug operations.
The awarding ceremony was held at the PDEA National Headquarters in Quezon City.
To maintain anonymity, the informants wore full-face masks and were identified only by their codenames.
PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani Nerez commended the informants for their crucial information, which led to nine separate operations that resulted in the seizure of large quantities of shabu and the arrest of several high-value drug suspects.
Four of the informants received P2 million each.
Among the notable operations was the confiscation of 49.705 kg of shabu and the arrest of two suspects in Muntinlupa City on March 14, and 39.86 kg of shabu seized in Rizal on March 19.
“These citizens chose to act despite the risks. Their vigilance helps strengthen our fight against illegal drugs,” Nerez said. “Indeed, vigilance pays off.”
The rewards were approved by a multi-sectoral committee composed of representatives from PDEA and trusted members of the private sector.
