THE low-pressure area west of Calayan, Cagayan, has developed into a tropical depression (TD) and was named Bising, the state weather bureau reported early Friday.
As of 4 a.m., Bising was located 200 kilometers west-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan, moving southwest at 20 kilometers per hour. It packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over:
- The western portion of the Babuyan Islands (Calayan and Dalupiri)
- Northwestern Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Bangui, Burgos, Pasuquin, Dumalneg)
Pagasa warned of minimal to minor impacts from strong winds in these areas and said rough seas are expected along the western seaboards of the Babuyan Islands. Mariners operating small seacraft, including motorbancas, are advised not to set sail.
Bising is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within the day, but a possible re-entry through the western boundary is expected by Sunday.
