Pagasa monitors 2 weather disturbances outside PAR

A new weather disturbance has developed outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), while Typhoon Halong continues to move farther away from the country, the state weather bureau said on Tuesday morning.

In its 8 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the low-pressure area (LPA 10B) being monitored over the Pacific Ocean has intensified into a tropical depression.

The weather system remains outside the PAR and has not yet been given a local name.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Halong — which also remains outside the PAR — continues to move over the Pacific and poses no direct effect on any part of the Philippines at this time.

PAGASA said it continues to monitor both systems for any potential movement closer to the country’s boundary, which could influence local weather conditions in the coming days.

As of now, the agency said the southwest monsoon (habagat) continues to bring occasional rain showers and thunderstorms over parts of Southern Luzon and Visayas, while fair weather prevails in most of the country.

PAGASA advised the public and local government units to stay alert for further updates, especially if the new tropical depression moves closer to the PAR in the next few days.
