PAGASA: Fair weather to prevail Sunday, isolated rains expected

THE country will generally experience fair weather on Sunday, except for isolated rain showers and thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.

In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Palawan will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon or habagat. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

The weather bureau is also monitoring Tropical Storm Halong, which remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). As of 3 a.m., Halong was located 2,190 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, moving westward at 10 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

Once it enters PAR, it will be named Tropical Storm Quedan, PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said, adding that the system is not expected to affect the country.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Matmo (formerly Paolo) was spotted 930 km west of extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kph and gustiness of up to 170 kph.

Moderate winds and seas are expected over the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon, while the rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.
