MORE than 8,800 individuals have sought refuge in evacuation centers as Typhoon Aghon continues to batter various parts of the country.
During the “Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon” public briefing, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao reported that over 2,500 families are currently staying in 165 evacuation centers.
She said these include 2,200 families from Calabarzon, more than 200 from Mimaropa, and 43 families from the Bicol Region, particularly in Camarines Sur.
Dumlao revealed that 615 families are staying with their relatives or friends in Laguna and Quezon, 219 in Marinduque, and 465 families in Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and Western Samar.
The storm has caused significant damage, with 22 houses affected—four destroyed and 18 partially damaged in Camarines Norte and Samar provinces.
In response to the disaster, she said, the DSWD has released more than 1.3 million pesos worth of family food packs and non-food items to assist the affected residents. This aid aims to provide immediate relief and support to those displaced by the typhoon. (GP)
